The highly acclaimed Springfield Armory Hellcat is a best-in-class 9mm double-stack micro-compact semi-automatic. Capacity ranges from the 10+1 Hellcat Low Capacity models to 11+1 Pinky Extension and 13+1 Extended Magazine models. Packaging efficiency means a 3” barrel, 4” height, slender 1” width across the grip and 6” overall length. Depending on configuration, empty weight ranges from 17.5 ounces up to 18.3 ounces. Each comes with two magazines.

Hellcat conjures World War II’s M18 Hellcat tank destroyer and the fabled F6F Hellcat fighter. Presumably, this high-capacity polymer compact semi-auto’s name is a doting homage to these two since there’s no such thing as a Hellcat in nature. Regardless of the inspiration, the result is something small, fast, with heavy hitting firepower.

Hellcats have a 3” barrel. It’s hammer forged steel for very high quality and durability. The barrel has a 1:10” twist ratio and a Melonite finish. The slide is billet machined with grip surfaces in front and back. It also gets a Melonite finish. You get high visibility sights atop it. There’s a tritium luminescent yellow surround front sight and a white U-notch Tactical Rack rear sight. The luminescence, contrast, etc., combine to make for very fast targeting.

Inside you get a dual captive recoil spring and a full-length guide rod. And underneath it, a non-proprietary accessory rail. The black polymer frame has a pyramid textured adaptive grip. Other features include a Gen 2 trigger, Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI) and a reversible magazine release.

The Low Capacity models like the Hellcat 3” Micro-Compact Handgun Low Capacity come with a pair of 10-round magazines. The others come with one 11-round Pinky Extension and a 13-round Extended Magazine. You can also get models with the OSP (Optical Slide Plate). These have a plate that you can use to install red dot optics directly to the slide. One option is Springfield’s own HEX Wasp sight.

The Hellcat 3” Micro-Compact OSP Handgun with Manual Safety comes with the 11-round and 13-round magazines, the Optical Slide Plate and has an ambidextrous manual safety by the rear slide.

You can get these models in all black or in FDE. The FDE color swathes the frame and slide. But the controls, sights and the barrel are still black. It’s a nice color contrast.
